Yoga Teacher Training at The Ananta Yoga Studio, The Tap, Kilbride, Co.Wicklow, Ireland.

200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training Programme at The Ananta Yoga Studio, Wicklow, Ireland.

INTRODUCTION

The Ananta Yoga Studio is delighted to announce it will be hosting a 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Programme commencing in October 2013.

This intensive Teacher Training Programme will be led by David Curtis of Vinyasa Yoga, Ireland.  David Curtis has been leading Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Courses since 2006 throughout Ireland in Dublin, Belfast, Ennis, Cork and Mullingar and brings a wealth of many years personal training, practice and teaching experience to his trainings.  His courses are well structured and professionally run and have earned him a reputation of excellence in the area of Yoga Teacher Training both in Ireland and abroad.

Please note – If you miss the first module or two of this training it is still possible to join in at any stage as the same training will be run in three other locations around Ireland commencing over the coming months.  You can make up any modules missed by attending them at another location to catch up.

WHO IS THIS TRAINING PROGRAMME DESIGNED FOR?

Since 2006 David Curtis has held 10 Teacher training programmes across Ireland with over 100 successful graduates. This 200 hour programme is designed for yoga practitioners with a minimum of 3 years consistent practice.  There are many trainings of varying lengths and quality so students are encouraged to attend based on what is appropriate to their existing practice level and not what might at first appear convenient. It takes many years to become a good teacher learning from experience as well as our own practice and studies. This training is designed to help you own your practice first as it will be our own practice that will always be the main platform for teaching.

This course is suitable for those who want to teach a dynamic practice yet learn how to keep their students bodies safe and for existing teachers looking to become the best they can be through confidence and inspiration. We will be utilising the wisdom of senior teachers Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty, founders of Yogaworks the renowned school in Los Angeles. Over twenty years they developed a system of dynamic yoga blended from the Krishnamacharya lineage that promotes a practice of intelligence and awareness, keeping your bodies integrity safe. For more info please log on to www.chuckandmaty.com

In conjunction with the above material which is mainly a template, the content of the course includes the insights of the Director and co -teachers over many years of practice.  Any technique or practice shared on this course has been utilised for many years beforehand and is proven for it’s efficiency and beneficial application. Although the exposure to such techniques may take a short period of time the refinement process will take years. Exposure to unnecessary and seemingly complicated postures or techniques will only hinder the evolution of the individual so this process is kept simple (not to be confused with easy) clear and concise. Coming to a process like this with a ‘Beginners Mind’ is the best approach as it opens the individual to an authentic learning experience and not just another accomplishment.

This intensive training programme is suitable for all serious and committed yoga practitioners who wish to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the vast and fascinating subject of yoga so that by becoming true students themselves, they may gain the skills required to begin to share their knowledge confidently and safely with others. The course is a great investment from a personal growth and development perspective and is a profoundly positive and life changing experience for all who successfully complete it whether they decide to teach or not.  I cannot recommend it highly enough.

COURSE CURRICULUM

Our programme is designed for students who may already be serious practitioners and now want to deepen their understanding of how to practice and teach safely, and with inspiration. Learn to implement a strong and intelligent Self-practice. It is through constant and persistent practice that the seed of teaching is sown. When the practice then blossoms the flower of knowledge is ready to be shared. The primal virtues of correct practice are the trinity of; Power (Prana) and it’s cultivation, the Wisdom (Buddhi) needed to maintain it and the Love (Atman) needed to understand it’s correct use.

A large portion of the training is devoted to practice teaching using Vinyasa Krama (intelligent sequencing) from the lineage of Krishnamacharya (Guru of renowned teachers like BKS Iyengar and Sri K Pattabhi Jois). This will prepare those ready to teach, the correct approach to sequencing and presenting a safe, effective and challenging class.

Why, if yoga is a therapy, are more and more students sustaining injuries? Learn how to maintain a powerful dynamic practice while keeping it safe and effective. The course gives extensive instruction in the theory and practice of yoga asana, basic kriya, breath, the art of teaching, and a practical overview of yogic and ayurvedic philosophy. Students and yoga instructors alike will find this course effective and comprehensive in its presentation. This training is designed to serve as a catalyst for intense and rapid growth. When you begin to teach, or think like a teacher your understanding will invariably deepen. However only through correct and persistent practice may this process begin. You will be led through this process with inspiration and confidence.

These breathing techniques promote energized relaxation, calming of the mind and preparation for meditation.

  • Ujjayi
  • Viloma
  • Nadi suddhi

HOW LONG IS THE TRAINING, THE COST AND WHAT ARE THE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS?

The 200 hour program is now laid out in a NEW Modular format. There are 15 modules which may take up to three years to complete. We are hosting these modules in four locations around the country – Dublin, Cork, Wicklow and Clare. Each module has five individual sessions held over a weekend. These sessions are held on Friday evening and Saturday/Sunday morning and afternoon. It is possible to complete the required modules in a shorter time frame by attending multiple locations where possible.

Once a minimum number of students have accumulated 180 hours of attendance with our lead faculty members we will hold a 4 Day Residential Retreat in Ireland for the remaining 20 hours to cover Teaching Methodology, Class Sequencing & Philosophy. Lisa Peterson will be joining the faculty and her modules can account for 60 contact hours. Lisa has knowledge and experience that will bring a new dimension to the course curriculum. We are very excited to have her on board.

Contact hours – 120 hours MUST be taken with Lead Instructors David Curtis and Ruth Walshe. Each module accounts for 12 hours so a minimum of 10 modules attendance necessary.

60 hours can be taken with Lisa Peterson (www.living-yoga.ie) over 5 modules.

20 hours as a Residential retreat. To be organised in Ireland all inclusive at a separate cost to modules taken to date.

Total contact hours = 200

The cost of the training will remain comparable to previous courses and will be paid per module. This allows the individual to pay-as-they attend helping to facilitate any financial constraints.

Each of the 15 modules will cost €190 per 12 hour weekend paid directly to the Lead teacher. The modular portion will total €2850 and the Residential portion will cost in the region of €500 all inclusive.

A note on the New modular format:

It is a misconception in the present times that a 200 hour training course makes you a teacher of anything. This training has previously been held over one year and then more recently two years to reflect the level of practice of the applicants. However it takes many years of practice and regular teaching to truly be able to call oneself a Teacher.

No doubt you are aware there are many different training programmes available and we do not think for a second that we have devised the best one however we are trying to meet the students where ever their current level of knowledge is.

This means that for most a year-long programme is just not long enough to accumulate and integrate enough experience and knowledge to teach effectively or at any great depth. Each module will include a home practice format that is laid out progressively so that the student can maintain an effective home practice in preparation for the next modules content. It will always be our personal practice that lays the foundation for teaching effectively and intelligently.

When deciding on the right programme for you it is important to consider the quality of the content and experience of the faculty and not just the cost and location of the programme.

Module Schedule: 12 hours per weekend

The schedule takes into account how much an individual can actually take on both experientially and intellectually over a given period of time. We have previously done up to 20 hours in one weekend and in reality that is too much to absorb and be useful for most people.

We meet Friday night 7pm-9.30pm, Saturday 10am -12.30pm and 2pm -4.30pm and Sunday 10am-12.30pm and 1pm-3pm. This course will include an in-depth study of Yoga-asana including but not limited to: Preparatory work, Sun Salutations, Standing postures, Forward Bends, Twists, Backbends and Inversions – Also including Yoga Philosophy, Introduction to Ayurveda, Yogic Anatomy, Teaching Methodology/Practice and Self-practice.

Graduates will be required to maintain a minimum grade of 80% in attendance and coursework to receive a certification.  The Director reserves the right to grant certification on the basis of these requirements only. The certification qualifies one to teach only the contents of the foundation course of VFY Ireland. As this is a foundation course it is strongly recommended that graduates continue their studies under more experienced teachers on completion of the training.

Our curriculum is recognised by Yoga Alliance ( An international registry of certification programmes – www.yogaalliance.org) at the 200 hour level (RYS 200). Insurance coverage is available to those who receive certification through Holistic Insurance (UK).

Training commences on the weekend of 4th October 2013 and applications are being accepted now.
