Somatics Workshop – Proximal Distal Reversal With Brian Siddhartha Ingle 22-23 June 2019

Somatics Workshop – Proximal Distal Reversal
22-23 June 2019, Wicklow
With Brian Siddhartha Ingle

In this workshop we will learn to regain our proximal distal relationship with ourselves through Somatic movement. Proximal means “close to the center of the body” and distal means “away from the center of the body”. The pelvis is most proximal and the hands and feet are most distal. All movement happens using our proximal and distal muscles. When we learn to work proximally, we learn how to move more efficient and graceful. We gain more freedom in our movement and we find our power from exploring our proximal distal relationship. This workshop is suitable for both new and advanced Somatic learners.

Living Somatics
Living Somatics is a system of neuromuscular re-education and a movement awareness practice. This work teaches us to recognize and release holding patterns and chronic pain resulting from injury, stress, repetitive strain, and habituated posture.

This work is based on the somatic tradition of Thomas Hanna, a student of Moshe Feldenkrais. In the spirit of this tradition, the primary focus of this work is to empower clients to master their own self-healing capacities. This method stands out from other forms of bodywork in that it relies on client participation to provide sensory-motor feedback, thus enabling the clients to make changes for themselves. We work with principles that improve the function of the nervous system, which creates free and easy movement.

Somatic exercises are slow, mindful movements mostly done lying down. In this work the principles are primary, focusing on finding ease and quality movement. Somatics pertains to the first-person experience and addresses the whole Soma; mind-body-spirit as one unit. This method teaches us how to use movement and awareness to increase wellbeing, health and access our greater potential.
