ABOUT

Bhakti Yoga of the Bhagavatgita
(Chapters 7 to 12)

“The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most important text in India. It contains the three important vedic freedom philosophies – Samkhya & different shades of Yoga and Vedanta all rolled into one. It was given to a non philosopher at a poignant time of enormous crisis. These darshanas become more meaningful during crisis time like covid time.

Conventionally the Gita is divided into three sections of six chapters each. The first six chapters form Karma Yoga wherein the importance of doing one’s duties as yagnya or sacrifice and not for fulfilment of mere desires is explored.

The second section consisting of chapters seven to twelve, is termed Bhakti yoga or Yoga of devotion to the Supreme Lord. Yoga practitioners may find the parallel in the yoga sutras as Iswara Pranidhana. In this program the subject will be Bhakti yoga wherein the greatness of the Lord will be elaborately narrated to help the Bhakti Yogi worship the Lord and attain freedom from samsara.

Bhakti Yoga is brought to light in the Bhagavad Gita when Krishna explains to Arjuna that those who manage to remain concentrated on him, worship him with unfaltering faith, are rescued from the cycle of life and death. This escape from the struggle of life and death that Lord Krishna refers to is commonly known as Moksha or enlightenment. The whole section is warm and endearing”.
