Shadow Hatha Yoga Series – with Pam Butler From April 2nd 2022

Shadow Hatha Yoga Foundations and Preludes
Workshop/Class Series – From April 2nd 2022
With Pam Butler

Ananta Yoga & Ayurveda are delighted to co-host this new Shadow Yoga series of In Person Studio Workshops backed up by weekly online classes in between – with Pam Butler.

This course is designed to introduce and progress the Shadow Hatha Yoga practice. The focus will be on affirming the foundations of Shadow yoga and developing the first Prelude, the Balakrama, while preparing for the second Prelude.

The combination of in-person workshops and zoom classes will provide us with the important face to face time to work more in depth, while maintaining what has been covered via the online classes. Those new to the practice will benefit from the regular meetings over 9 weeks, while those already familiar with Shadow yoga will have the support to reconnect with the practice.
A basic familiarity with yoga is required. The principles of connecting with the breath, moving from the centre, making the right effort without imposition, and coming naturally to stillness will inform the practice.

The course is a hybrid of in-person monthly workshops and weekly Zoom classes, April – June. This way, the important personal connection can be developed, while providing support and consistency to the practice through the online classes.

Shadow Yoga is a school of Hatha Yoga developed by Shandor Remete. Informed by other Eastern disciplines including martial arts and dance, the Prelude forms use simple yet challenging static and dynamic sequences to develop particular skills that help practitioners to progress safely and effectively.

The first Prelude form, Balakrama, develops on strength, flexibilty, and resilience. The second Prelude form, Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam, refines coordination of breath with movement and develops awareness of the connections between the power (legs) and expressive (arms) limbs. The third Prelude form, Kartikkeya, uses more complex twists and coordination of hands and feet to refine the mindset in preparation for the pure dance.
